Question Detail
Question
Which of the following hormones is not secreted by human placenta? a. Estrogens b. luteinizing hormone c. Progesterone d. human chorionic gonadotrophin hormone (hCG)
Correct Answer
Option B is the correct answer.
Detailed Explanation
The placenta secretes estrogens, progesterone, and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Luteinizing hormone (LH) is secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, not the placenta. hCG is similar to LH and is produced by the placenta to maintain the corpus luteum early in pregnancy.
Hint
One is made by the pituitary, the others by the placenta.
