The Catholic Church, both globally and in Nigeria, adheres to a strict doctrine that reserves priestly ordination for men only, thus women cannot be ordained as bishops or priests (which includes the role of prophetess in some traditions). Many other denominations, including some Aladura churches, do allow women in such roles.
